Discover Shanghai’s Hidden Bar Gems: Affordable and Unique Spots for an Unforgettable Night Out

While these bars may be considered niche, some of them are quite popular. For those visiting Shanghai or looking to unwind with a drink in the evening, check out these recommendations!

Glory

📍No. 66, Yuyao Road

This establishment serves coffee during the day and transforms into a bar at night. The decor makes you feel like you’re in Itaewon, perfect for taking photos.

Be sure to try their specialty coffee and cheesecake.

The bartender truly understands customers’ preferences, which is fantastic!

The Broken Dagger

📍No. 93-1, Xiangyang North Road

Hidden behind a mural, this bar’s slogan resonates with me: “I can live without love, but not without alcohol.” The owner is a beautiful woman, and their themed drinks based on the colors of the rainbow and the “seven necessities of life” are closely connected to daily life. If you enjoy the unconventional, give this place a try.

Missing Gallery

📍No. 48, Sinan Road

The bartender here has a unique perspective and enjoys creating relatively strong drinks, which I happen to love! The owner is truly adorable and has captured my heart for a long time.

Valpasso

📍Building 5, 3F, No. 758, Julu Road

Julu Road is home to many hidden gem bars, and this is one I visited a long time ago. During their happy hour from 6 PM to 8 PM, it’s incredibly affordable.

Two people can enjoy drinks and a snack for just 158 RMB. Don’t forget the happy hour timing!

LAB

📍No. 1093, Wuding Road

This is a popular whiskey bar with an industrial design and a whiskey wall. Reservations are required due to its popularity.

Given the high volume of customers, I recommend specifying that you don’t want a small table under the stairs when making your reservation, as the experience there isn’t as good.

Shanghai's Bar

Goen

📍Room D, 1st Floor, No. 363, Changping Road

This is a Japanese-style quiet bar owned by a Japanese person. The bar is closed on weekends, so don’t make the trip only to find it closed. Its predecessor, Closless, was also a popular quiet bar in Shanghai.

The store is a bit hard to find, but its tranquility makes it perfect for girls.

Shanghai's Bar

Blackstone

📍Room 108-109, Building 1, Blackstone Apartments, Lane 1331, Fuxing Middle Road

This bar is very business-oriented and high-end, as is its location. Their seasonal cocktail menu is excellent, and you can always find a drink you like!

They have a large private room suitable for group dining and drinking. In the summer, the terrace should also be open, which is fantastic.

Shanghai's Bar

Up

📍No. 688-201, Shaanxi North Road

This bar serves the best Shanghai-style snacks, hands down. My friends and I once ordered seven portions of snacks in one night. You can even come here just to eat, even if you’re not drinking. There’s also a dance floor where you can enjoy a little dance.
