As soon as I stepped into Shaoxing Yellow Wine Town, a subtle aroma of wine wafted through the air, inviting me to take a deep breath and savor its unique charm. The town’s streets are lined with ancient-style buildings, meticulously arranged, and the cobblestone paths are clean and tidy, making every step feel like treading on the traces of history.
Shaoxing Yellow Wine Town, located in the historically and culturally renowned town of Dongpu, is one of the second batch of national characteristic towns and among the first batch of Zhejiang provincial-level characteristic town creation units.
With a history of more than 1,600 years, Shaoxing Yellow Wine Town is the birthplace of Shaoxing yellow wine. It is said that “Yue wine travels the world, and Dongpu wine is the best,” emphasizing the profound yellow wine culture and its long history.
Shaoxing Yellow Wine Town is not only the hometown of yellow wine but also the hometown of the great Tang Dynasty poet He Zhizhang, the patriotic poet Lu You of the Southern Song Dynasty, and the revolutionary martyr Xu Xilin of the Xinhai Revolution. Therefore, it is also known as the “hometown of water towns, wine towns, bridge towns, and famous scholars.”
