Today, I’d like to introduce you to a small island with a beautiful name – “Nangu Penglai”. Here, you can see the vast ocean from the anime “Suzume”, which is so beautiful that it feels like stepping into a comic book. It’s a dream island for many people – Meizhou Island.
📍Meizhou Island
Located in Xiuyu District, Putian City, Fujian Province
When it comes to Fujian, you might think of Quanzhou, but there are actually some scenic spots that are just as impressive as Quanzhou. Meizhou Island is one such place that you won’t regret visiting.
Here, you can find a boardwalk leading to the sea, a colorful rainbow road around the island, and a long, beautiful sandy coastline. Every shot you take will be picture-perfect.
Attractions:
📍Mazu Ancestral Temple
This is a must-visit place for tourists and the birthplace of Mazu culture.
The Mazu Ancestral Temple was first built in the Northern Song Dynasty and is the world’s first Mazu temple, known as the “Ancestral Court”. The architectural complex features a variety of halls and pavilions, and is called the “Potala Palace on the Sea”.
In addition to the unique golden statue of Mazu, the Mazu Temple also has Mazu holy statues made of “gold, wood, water, fire, and earth”. These different statues represent the auspicious meaning of the five blessings.
📍Meiyu Chaoyin
There is a rainbow road and a sea boardwalk. If you like to watch the sunrise, don’t miss this place as it’s the best spot for sunrise viewing.
When the weather is good, the color of the sea is really amazing. Walking on the boardwalk, feeling the sea breeze, and looking down at the boardwalk from a high place is particularly stunning.
When visiting, be aware that there are no guardrails on this boardwalk, so it can be a bit dangerous when the waves hit. So, be mindful of safety when there are sea breezes and waves.
📍Tianfei’s Hometown
The Tianfei’s Hometown Ruins Park is located in the northern part of Meizhou Island. The park includes the hometown ruins area, ancestral worship area, cliff carving landscape area, auspicious culture area, and folk customs area. This scenic spot integrates Mazu culture, natural landscapes, and garden art.
If you enjoy observing cultural landscapes, you can check in here. Being immersed in it feels like being in a hall of humanities and arts.
📍Lianchi’ao Beach
If you love the sea, don’t miss this place. The seawater here is azure blue, shimmering with the sky in one color. The wave curls are interesting, and the sand is golden and fine, with a soft and comfortable touch. It’s so beautiful.
📍Ewei Shishi Park
Ewei Coastal Erosion Geopark is a coastal erosion landform park formed by the magical workmanship of nature, located in Huainianning. It has famous check-in points such as the Flying Halberd Cave. You can bring your children here to experience the wonders of nature.
Ewei Beach is also a must-visit spot. Photos taken here can be directly posted on your social media without much effort. The tropical sunshine on the beach is very strong, and if you’re lucky, you can even see the sunrise in the morning.
📍Golden Beach
This is the most beautiful place to watch the sunset, truly living up to its name “Golden”. It’s really beautiful, and you can capture a whole big sunset here. When taking photos, you can feel the visual impact of light and shadow.

🚘Transportation Guide:
The attractions on the island are relatively scattered. There are buses and Didi available, but renting an electric car is more convenient. There are also shared electric cars, but the prices are relatively high.
