The Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism has carefully selected representative spots from the “Good Places Near Home” voted by Shanghai residents over the years, forming 12 Citywalk routes with different themes. Today, we introduce the Citywalk route in Jiading District, Shanghai!
Step into the elegant Jiading, where you can traverse through the river of history and feel the unique cultural charm and urban characteristics. Here, you can find artistic nourishment from museums and art galleries, the bustling atmosphere of Nanxiang Old Street and Xiyun Building, and the rich aroma of books at “My Jiading Book House.” You can have poetry and distant places right at your doorstep.

1.Jiading Museum
Jiading Museum was established in 1959 and is a comprehensive museum integrating collection, protection, research, exhibition, and education functions. Currently, the museum has jurisdiction over the Jiading Confucius Temple, a national key cultural relics protection unit, and the Fahua Pagoda, a Shanghai cultural relics protection unit.
The overall design style of Jiading Museum is soft and elegant, perfectly integrating Jiading’s unique regional elements. It interweaves the beauty of Jiangnan gardens with the beauty of modern architecture, becoming a beautiful scenery in the center of Jiading’s old town.

2.Shanghai Han Tianzheng Art Museum
Shanghai Han Tianzheng Art Museum is located in Jiading Ancient City, which has 800 years of cultural heritage. It officially opened on October 24, 2013. The famous artist Mr. Han Tianzheng and his family donated 1,136 precious items to the country, including ancient and modern calligraphy, paintings, carvings, scholar’s objects, and his personal works, which became the museum’s permanent collection.
The total area of Han Tianzheng Art Museum reaches 14,000 square meters. It has four permanent exhibition halls (Han Tianzheng Art Footprint Museum, Han Tianzheng Calligraphy, Painting, and Seal Carving Exhibition Hall, Chinese Ancient and Modern Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition Hall, and Ancient Seals and Scholar’s Objects Exhibition Hall) and two temporary exhibition halls.

3.Xiyun Building
Xiyun Building Cultural and Commercial Leisure Street is a Shanghai-style water street filled with a sense of a beautiful life. The 520-meter-long alley features well-arranged shikumen, over-street buildings, and street gardens, showcasing a strong flavor of Shanghai-style life. The outdoor riverside leisure area, Xiyun River Fountain, lights, and water stage complement the ancient stone bridge.

4.Nanxiang Old Street
Nanxiang Old Street is located in the central area of Nanxiang Ancient Town, featuring the scenery of small bridges over flowing water, long doors, short windows, white walls, and black tiles, typical of a Jiangnan ancient town. It includes three old streets: Renmin Street, Gonghe Street, and Jiefang Street.
Nanxiang Old Street is rich in tourism resources, such as Yunxiang Temple, Double Tower Ancient Well, and Tan Garden. There are also interesting legends like the White Crane Nanxiang, Yujia Bridge, and Dragon Cave. It is a microcosm of the history, culture, and commerce of the ancient town of Nanxiang during the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China.

5.My Jiading Book House · Celebrity Residence
Celebrity Residence is located on Nanxiang Old Street, adjacent to the residence of Li Liufang, a Ming Dynasty poet, calligrapher, and one of the “Four Gentlemen of Jiading.” The overall architectural style is from the Ming and Qing Dynasties, covering an area of about 900 square meters.
Inside the Celebrity Residence, there is a city public library called “My Jiading Book House.” The overall architectural style is from the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and the decoration and layout highlight the cultural characteristics of Jiangnan. It is a quiet self-reading space in the bustling city. The library has a collection of more than 5,100 books, including 4,000 comic books. If you love “little people’s books,” you absolutely must not miss it.
