As a passionate lover of island relaxation, if I were to rank my favorite islands, Wanning in Hainan would definitely be in the top three! Whether you enjoy lively and cheerful activities or prefer a quiet vacation, in Wanning, you can find a style that suits you~
Wanning is a heavenly holiday island with scenery that rivals Sanya. Half of it is the azure sea, and the other half is a lush fairy land. The bay has been rated as the “Top Ten Most Beautiful Bays in Hainan,” and the coastal road is known as “China’s California Highway 1.” There are also various undeveloped pristine islands and a glass-like sea with a visibility of 10 meters deep, making it a world-class diving sanctuary!
A friendly reminder to friends planning to visit Wanning in February: before departure, check the local weather forecast and it’s best to bring a thick coat for easy layering, as the temperature difference between morning and evening can be quite significant! After all, when traveling, in addition to having fun, you also need to take care of your health~
This time, I have compiled a three-day independent travel itinerary for Wanning, Hainan. For friends who plan to visit Wanning, let’s take a look together!
Day 1 Itinerary
Sun and Moon Bay
Sun and Moon Bay is the most distinctive bay in Wanning. It gets its name because the seawater here presents different colors during sunrise and sunset. With mountains surrounding the back and the South China Sea to the south, the sand is fine, and the water is clear, making it suitable for swimming and a natural seawater bathing resort.
The waves here are big, regular in shape, and last for a long time. Coupled with the average annual temperature of 24.4°C, it is suitable for surfing for more than half of the year. Many top international surfing competitions are held here, and it is home to Asia’s largest surfing club, making it a must-visit for surfing enthusiasts~
There are also many young people in Sun and Moon Bay, with well-equipped facilities and numerous popular stores. The atmosphere is enthusiastic, unreserved, and free. Photos taken here and posted on social media often receive comments like “it doesn’t look like it’s in China”~
Coconut Grove Road
This is the most beautiful road with coconut groves on one side and the sea on the other, suitable for renting an electric scooter to ride. Along the way, there are many popular coffee shops and seafood restaurants… It’s very picturesque for taking photos. Even if you do nothing, just sitting here basking in the sun and looking at the sea is extremely relaxing and enjoyable~
Sun and Moon Bay Church
The seaside Sun and Moon Bay Church is a must-visit spot for many people coming to Sun and Moon Bay. The exterior here is very similar to the Anaya Church, and the interior of the church is also open. At night, the lights are turned on, adding to the atmosphere and making it very photogenic.
Nanmen Pedestrian Street
There are many bars and restaurants here. During the day, you can drink coffee, eat seafood, and bask in the sun here. At night, sit by the sea and enjoy a beer while feeling the sea breeze! It’s super chill and a perfect street for a city walk!
Day 2 Itinerary
Bali Village
For friends who haven’t been to Xishuangbanna or Southeast Asia, you can come to Bali Village in Xinglong, Wanning, to experience the atmosphere. The park is relatively small and can be visited in just a few dozen minutes. Here, you can rent clothes for photos, which have a very exotic style.
Shenzhou Peninsula
Shenzhou Peninsula is surrounded by the sea on three sides and connected to land on one side. It is known as the “Maldives of the East.” The average annual temperature here is 27°C, with shimmering waves and a clean environment with fresh air. It is also one of the filming locations for the blockbuster movie “The Disappeared Her.”
The sea in Wanning doesn’t need filters; it has a kind of clean and transparent natural beauty. Paired with the red and white striped lighthouse standing tall, it’s as beautiful as a scene from a Hayao Miyazaki animation, and the photos taken here are just too stunning!
Shanqin Bay
If you want to get away from the crowds, appreciate natural scenery, avoid taking cliché popular photos, and don’t want to see messy, colorful, and noisy entertainment facilities… then you must come to Shanqin Bay!
Here, you’ll find a glass-like sea, unique black stone reefs, and clean coarse sand beaches. Even the sea foam has its own personality. It belongs to the lesser-known attractions of Wanning, with color tones so beautiful that you don’t even need to add filters~
Xinglong Night Market
In the evening, why not go to Xinglong to explore the night market and have a late-night snack? There will be many food stalls at the entrance of the Qiaoxiang Market next to the Southeast Asian-style area. The prices are very friendly, and you can also experience the local living atmosphere.
Day 3 Itinerary
Shimei Bay
Shimei Bay is the most beautiful bay in Hainan, with lush green mountains on one side and azure seawater on the other. It is a signature attraction of Wanning. Here, you’ll find white sand, blue sea, clear skies, and flowing clouds. Take a stroll on the beach, feel the sea breeze, listen to the waves, and experience the unique delicacy and cleanliness of Wanning.
The atmosphere here is completely different from the lively and prosperous feeling of Yalong Bay. It’s so quiet that you can seemingly only hear the sound of the waves, making it very suitable for those who want to clear their minds and escape the hustle and bustle of the city!
Phoenix Jiuli Bookstore
Phoenix Jiuli Bookstore, known as the “most beautiful seaside bookstore,” is a bookstore opened by the sea, with the beach right outside the door.
On a leisurely afternoon, step into the bookstore, find a spot to sit down, and read quietly. The refreshing sea breeze blows through the windows, occasionally lifting your hair and the pages of your book. When you look up, you’ll see the boundless sea, which is incredibly romantic.
