Holiday Afternoon Brunch

BIJOU

A hidden gem quietly opened on Wuyuan Road. The floor-to-ceiling windows on the first floor allow you to see the street scenery, and the second-floor terrace is great for taking photos. The warm wood-toned store style reminds people of the fruitful autumn.

The store mainly focuses on Korean fusion dishes. The chocolate and citrus crepes are soft and delicious, and the fried chicken with spicy egg yolk sauce is tender, juicy, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, so delicious that even the scallions are not left behind.

For those seeking a moment of tranquility in the bustling Wutong area, BIJOU is a good choice. The combination of unique decorative art and contemporary design, along with a nod to the Bauhaus movement, creates an incredibly charming space. The lush greenery and peaceful rooftop provide a momentary escape from the noisy city. Whether enjoying a pleasant meal or brunch, you will be transported to an elegant and refined era.

Here, you can taste the rare octopus burger in Shanghai. The softness of the bread, the tenderness of the grilled octopus, and the freshness of the vegetable salad complement each other, creating a very unique taste. But the most popular item for TO Jun is the restaurant’s homemade baked oatmeal with Greek yogurt. The sourness and sweetness are just right, and with a bite of grains, the whole mouth is fragrant.

Jianbing guozi is a Chinese-style crepe. The batter is mixed with chocolate cream and spread with a little tangerine sauce for a sour-sweet taste, which is imaginably delicious.

The pickled grapefruit and orange are fresh and refreshing, mouthwatering, paired with red wine stewed pears infused with spices and wine aroma, rich in layers. The sour-sweet fruit aroma of citrus mixed with spices, pears, and red wine fragrance progresses layer by layer. Wagyu Cheeseburger: The perfectly grilled cooking allows each 170g fresh Wagyu patty to be infused with an oily mouthfeel. The addition of Cheddar cheese makes the aroma of red wine onions mellow. The secret sauce wraps the entire French butter bun. Among the thousands of delicacies in the world, only oil and carbohydrates are the unbreakable deliciousness.

Italian Air-Dried Beef Salad: Dehydration can concentrate the fresh flavor of beef. Thinly sliced air-dried beef that is soft, chewy, and slightly tough, the aroma of oil and salty-fresh flavor is released as you chew. Mini pumpkin, Mexican black beans, red bell peppers, and almond flakes not only bring a unique mouthfeel and aroma but also allow the aftertaste to be slightly sweet, showing the thousands of styles of Italian flavor.

Basil Sausage Pizza: Refusing to stick to the same old formula, combining all the worthy food inspirations in the world, and baking them in the oven to create an enticing deliciousness is the original intention of pizza. The toppings only include secret basil sauce, basil sausage, white fresh mozzarella cheese, and bright green fresh basil leaves, but every bite is a fresh and natural flavor.

Neapolitan-Style Salami Pizza: San Marzano tomatoes, salami, mozzarella cheese, seasoned with garlic and oregano, the simplest ingredients create a timeless deliciousness.

Seafood Pasta: The simpler the cooking, the more it will not miss the goodness of the ocean. Seasonal seafood is mixed and stewed with homemade San Marzano tomato sauce. The pasta absorbs the deliciousness of the sauce and slides into the mouth, eating a piece of condensed sea.

Classic Fish and Chips: Large chunks of fish fillets are soaked in a batter made of homemade craft beer and soda water. The carbohydrate content ensures the lightness and crispiness of the fried fish. Served with lemon mayonnaise and ketchup, every bite can feel the traditional charm and unique flavor of the empire on which the sun never sets.

Flowers Gradually Dazzle the Eyes

Blossom Place

This floral studio hidden in a residential area on Huaihai Road is called Blossom Place, which means “embracing mountains and water, facing the sun”. The owner of the flower shop used to be an office worker at the Big Four. On a late night of overtime, a thought flashed in his tired mind: how nice would it be to open his own flower shop. So this idea took root and sprouted in the owner’s mind, and finally landed with Blossom Place. For the owner, being able to do what he likes means the best life.

The decoration of the flower shop is very attractive to girls, with a simple and pure outdoor installation, using a romantic and poetic light blue as the main tone. The blue is interspersed with white space, as if subtly reminding people to stop their hurried steps. In the courtyard, the layout is staggered and well-placed, looking like it has been carefully arranged.

After walking from the courtyard into the interior, the floral materials do not fill the entire flower shop but maintain a certain space. On the side, there are items with strong personal characteristics such as ukulele and Delonghi coffee machine. Looking to the right, there is a dim room, which is the workspace where inspiration bursts.

The owner often makes some special flower-related items, such as preserved flowers and candles. Customizing one as a birthday gift for someone would be quite unique.

There are hand-dyed purple imported tulips, blue globe, ocean song roses… imported white alstroemeria, leptospermum, dyed blue carnations… and many more varieties.

Simply pick a few and have the shop staff help with the matching and packaging, and it will be very beautiful. If you want to customize, the staff will also patiently explain and recommend.

Girls can gather here for an entire afternoon without getting bored. The vintage gold LOGO wall at the front of the store is filled with various floral materials, all carefully selected by the owner.

The store also features tropical plants and black technology hydroponic plants that can save “plant killers”. A careful browse can uncover more treasure plants.

Various corners of the store are decorated with niche clothing, handicrafts, and salon fragrances from independent designer brands. Rather than a flower shop, it’s more like a lifestyle experience hall.

Having afternoon tea in a flower shop is incredibly sweet! Colorful macarons and various mini cakes are paired with the signature Damascus rose tea. Take a sip, and the fragrance spreads throughout the entire oral cavity.

The outdoor area on the first floor is a small garden + sunroom, where you can find all kinds of Instagram-worthy plants. Painted alocasia, crystal anthurium, Clivia miniata… and many more flowers and potted plants.

The indoor area is a sales area for fresh flowers, cake and dessert bakery, vases, and niche perfumes. The floral cakes are a must-try, both beautiful and delicious~ Currently, it’s all by appointment, so remember to make a reservation before going.

MAGGIEMAO Floral Gallery

MAGGIEMAO Floral Gallery is hidden in a residential building and requires ringing the doorbell, which has a sense of ceremony, like visiting a friend’s home.

It is said that this is the first building in Shanghai, and upon entering, you can feel the unique historical atmosphere.

Not long ago, it transformed from a flower shop to a lifestyle art experience space, dabbling in floral art, home furnishings, fragrances, and more. This bold transformation has injected fresh blood into this spring.

The ample white space highlights the Zen atmosphere, creating a relaxing and healing ambiance. It’s a treasure trove that makes people want to check in from time to time.

It’s not an exaggeration to say that the style is minimalist. The space is very spacious, with a large branch of Pieris japonica standing on the small balcony, resembling a tranquil landscape.

There are many beautiful flowers on the table in the middle, and you can have afternoon tea in the area near the balcony, which has a very high photo-taking rate.

Let’s gather at open-air B&Bs

Yixing Uttamam Bamboo Sea B&B

“UTTAMAM” has a reputation as a “legendary B&B brand” within the Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Shanghai vacation circle. “UTTAMAM” is derived from the Sanskrit transliteration, meaning utopia, a state of self-contained ideals. The first one opened on the bank of the Hangzhou Canal, with only 5 rooms but a market value of over 100 million yuan, creating the living atmosphere of an old Hangzhou walled courtyard. The second one is deep in the secret land of Anji Bamboo Hidden Mountain, offering a private and vast tranquility of mountains and wilderness.

The brand new third branch, Yixing Uttamam, has been meticulously crafted for 6 years. It is located next to the Bamboo Sea Scenic Area, encircling 8 acres of mountainous land, surrounded by 200,000 acres of bamboo sea and 75,000 acres of tea mountains, with layers of greenery, creating a tranquil and secluded paradise.

The hotel is connected to the outside world through a secluded path lined with metasequoia, and a front courtyard garden greets you as you wind your way in. A pond, a wooden house, a bamboo grove, and the sound of gurgling stream… all the scenes are imbued with the charm of “the good old days”.

The B&B has a building area of 4,800 square meters, with low-density buildings perfectly integrated into the landscape. The interior designer made ample use of white space, introducing more natural beauty to decorate the space. Walking through it, you are presented with one poetic landscape painting after another.

Yixing Uttamam has a total of 22 guest rooms, divided into 11 room types. Each room has underfloor heating throughout, so it can be as warm as spring even in autumn and winter. The rooms have private tea rooms where you can brew a pot of clear tea and enjoy the scenery, which is extremely pleasurable.

What surprises people most is the outdoor private pools, where you can appreciate the snow in winter, listen to the wind in summer, watch the bamboo in spring, and gaze at the moon in autumn, full of wild charm.

There are also a variety of entertainment and interactions, such as an outdoor swimming pool in the cherry blossom ravine, a tranquil tea house space, a slightly tipsy clear bar, a parent-child pottery bar… allowing you to immerse yourself in the romantic atmosphere of the scenery.

It took a full 6 years of preparation to preserve the wild and luxurious charm in the spacious courtyard, bringing a top-notch vacation experience.

Every plant in the garden has been carefully designed and maintained. A gust of wind blows the swaying tree shadows and rippling water, adding a touch of wildness. This is the magic of Uttamam, and you will be affected by it as soon as you arrive. It subtly incorporates the “elegance” of Chinese aesthetics into the “wildness” of nature, making people forget about their trivial worries and just want to empty themselves at the moment.

Even more effort has been put into the dining, with each dish being carefully researched by the “Uttamam Life Research Institute”, combining more creative culinary techniques on the basis of local Yixing dishes.

UTTAMAM Afternoon Tea

UTTAMAM Bamboo Sea Special Blend, from the selection of ingredients to the fusion of flavors, cooking techniques, and the colors of the plating are all extremely meticulous. It’s no exaggeration to say that in my mind, this is a complete presentation of a “Black Pearl”~

Shanghai Happy Valley Magic Lantern Festival

The B&B is located in the picturesque Duihekou Village of Moganshan, next to the 430-year-old Xicen Ancient Trail. The two villa buildings, with distinctive characteristics of traditional residences in northern Zhejiang, are surrounded by lush bamboo forests, and there is a one-zhang-wide (about 3.3 meters) stream right at the doorstep, creating a secluded atmosphere of tranquility and detachment from the world.

Walking through the wooden door of Hidden West, you will find that the entire space has a unique artistic atmosphere. The old wood from the original old houses has been extensively used in column foundations, window frames, and various decorations, making the entire space rustic and natural. The large panoramic glass windows bring in the changing scenery of the vast bamboo sea throughout the four seasons.

Shen Yong, the owner and designer of Hidden West 39, also known as Old Pumpkin, has over 20 years of design experience and has previously designed popular B&Bs such as Uttamam. He is also a painter. The entire Hidden West consists of two buildings that can breathe openly and integrate with nature, without too much deliberate carving, yet making people feel comfortable and cozy inside and out.

“Design is about designing life, with comfort and a good living experience as the main focus. Design is a process of expression, not a process of showing off skills.” Every corner of Hidden West puts Old Pumpkin’s design philosophy into practice. Hidden West is divided into two buildings: the Water Courtyard and the Mountain Courtyard. The Mountain Courtyard has 9 rooms, while the Water Courtyard has 6 rooms.

The Water Courtyard is a 2-story building along the village path, while the Mountain Courtyard is a 3-story building along the bamboo forest path, separated only by a small road. These two small buildings facing each other together form a breathing architecture.

In order to provide guests with more spacious areas, Hidden West has given up all the rooms on the first floor and converted them into public spaces for dining and tea breaks.

The contrast between modern and old-style architecture makes it even more unique, with a strong visual design sense. The public hall makes extensive use of full-width glass windows and brings the mountain into the interior, offering excellent views and scenery, with the lush green mountains in full view outside.

The utensils used inside the house are also very exquisite. Lou Jie, the owner of Hidden West, says that many of the small objects here are made by herself. For example, the rush mats are hand-woven by the aunts and then fire-colored, so each rush mat has a different color.

The interior hard decoration tends to be cold and hard, with a distinct industrial style, but elements such as old wood, cotton and linen, and brass are used to add a soft atmosphere, complemented by warm yellow lighting, making it the most desirable place during moments of weakness such as nightfall and chilly winds.

The interior design is mainly industrial style, and the designer also uses elements such as old wood, cotton and linen, and brass, complemented by warm yellow lighting, to add a soft atmosphere. At the same time, in order to provide guests with more spacious areas, Hidden West has given up all the rooms on the first floor and converted them into public spaces, with tea seats and Zen ambiance everywhere.

Hidden West is divided into two buildings: the Water Courtyard and the Mountain Courtyard. The Mountain Courtyard has 9 rooms, while the Water Courtyard has 6 rooms, named after flowers, streams, bamboos, and fields. The rooms use tatami mats with rush mats, tea sets, and other Chinese-style items to create a warm and soft aesthetic space. After waking up naturally in the morning, you can open the curtains and see a vast green bamboo sea, truly sleeping in the midst of the bamboo forest.

Hidden West has created two outdoor bathhouses, “Bamboo Forest Wild Fun” and “Warm Wild Bath,” in the bamboo forest, introducing naturally deep rock layer spring water rich in minerals. When soaking in the bath, you can light candles and incense to wash away your fatigue, fully breathe in the bamboo sea, and a romantic atmosphere naturally arises.

The B&B also features a hilltop gazebo, DIY handmade kitchen, large scenic leisure terrace, outdoor swimming pool, and other areas, allowing you to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and immerse yourself in the wild fun of the mountains.

Cloud Mist Pine Inn – Hot Spring Beautiful Lodge

Cloud Mist Pine Inn is hidden at the top of the cloud mountain at an altitude of 700 meters in Bamuqiu, Sandu Town, Jiande, occupying the entire mountaintop. The inn invited the design team from China Academy of Art to design and transform it from several deep mountain cottages, preserving the style of the old houses while injecting modern living quality.

The buildings here are backed by lush mountains and forests, featuring the yellow mud walls characteristic of Jiangnan mountain dwellings, paired with neat modern black steel lines and a series of bright floor-to-ceiling windows, allowing the buildings to blend harmoniously with the beautiful mountain scenery. The Zhejiang TV variety show “There are still poems and distant places” once filmed here.

Entering the inn’s lobby, the entire space is structured with stone and wood materials, highlighting the primitive beauty of rammed earth architecture.

Cloud Mist Pine Inn has created 15 modern wild luxury guest rooms, named with poetic names such as Listening to the Waves, Watching the Moon, Maple Dance, Viewing the Lake, Pine Shadow, Exploring the Forest, Apricot Meeting, Fangchen, and Cherry Blossom. The rooms are mainly in wood and solid colors, and are equipped with underfloor heating throughout, allowing travelers to enjoy comfort and warmth even in autumn and winter.

Cloud Mist Pine Inn has 2 garden hot springs, all hidden in the forest garden. Walking along the pebble path through the garden, you can see a scenic stream steaming with heat. After nightfall, taking a bath under the starry sky is extremely romantic.

Mountains, forests, valleys, and countryside – several rammed earth old houses transformed by the China Academy of Art design team, a few glass tree houses hidden deep in the forest, the Yoshino cherry blossoms blooming at the junction of the mountain and the forest, and the spring breeze carrying the scent of mountain cherry blossoms caressing your face, making your body and mind feel light.

On a spring afternoon, when you have nothing to do, just sit on the lawn or in the room and enjoy the warm afternoon sun on your body, while quietly listening to the birds and insects passing through the forest, experiencing the life of a little immortal with nothing to do.

Living in the mountains is a way to perceive the four seasons. As the flowers and plants change with the four seasons, you can also taste a series of special meals related to the countryside.

Bright moon and clear breeze, starry sky – when the lights in the forest and the steaming heat of the warm soup cast away your worries, follow the guidance of the warm energy and take a warm bath in the garden’s private hot spring, watching the leaves sway gently in the spring water, surrounded by rippling water, dreamy and romantic.

Waking up in the fresh air of the mountains in the morning, the distant mountains are like a painting, and the fragrance of flowers is everywhere, opening up all kinds of senses. Take a walk on the mountain path, the relationship between nature, seasonal and local food is just right, combined with the aunts’ years of craftsmanship, integrated into a spring breakfast table. Breathe in the fresh air and eat a rich countryside breakfast, the atmosphere is very good.

The mountains and fields are in new green, and while the spring is just right, take a stroll on the country paths where the birds sing melodiously, and go out together to meet spring bamboo shoots, green wild scallions, and tender horse blue heads. Don’t eat from time to time, and bring all the delicacies of spring back home.
