The editor has specially compiled a “Bund City Walk Guide” for you, taking you on a one-stop tour of eight iconic landmarks along the Bund, discovering a different side of Shanghai and appreciating the unique charm of this city.
Sammy Building
A stroll along the Bund wouldn’t be complete without the Sammy Building. After renovation, this century-old building has now become a fashionable old building integrating restaurants, galleries, and a design hotel.
The Sammy Building features a typical eclectic architectural style, with five floors, a three-part composition, stone cladding, and rich architectural elements on the facade, with partial Baroque decorative characteristics. It boasts “Shanghai’s most beautiful balcony,” attracting countless photography enthusiasts to check in and take photos. Standing here, you can overlook Shanghai’s iconic buildings and enjoy the stunning scenery!
Jardine Matheson Building
Built in 1898, the entire exterior is full of German-style charm, with a red brick and tile facade. The design of arched doors along the street side instantly transports you to a foreign country!
If you walk a little further towards the Bund, you might be able to capture the Oriental Pearl Tower in the streetscape, with Holy Trinity Church just across the street, which is also worth a visit.
Rockbund
Rockbund stretches from Yuanmingyuan Road and 33 Park in the east to Huqiu Road in the west, bordering South Suzhou Road to the north and Beijing East Road to the south. It is located at the intersection of the Huangpu River and Suzhou Creek, linking several century-old buildings and modern architectures.
Various British-style buildings are gathered here, and strolling through them feels like being in a European town. The red brick exterior is particularly photogenic, and many people choose to take wedding photos here! Along the street, there are also numerous luxury retail shops, high-end restaurants, and serviced apartments, making it a great place to explore!
Shanghai Postal Museum
Standing on the bank of Suzhou Creek, the Shanghai Postal Museum is over 90 years old. The overall architecture adopts a European eclectic style, and it’s hard not to notice when walking along the north bank of Suzhou Creek near the Waibaidu Bridge! The double spiral staircase and the retro atrium in the lobby are simply a paradise for photography!
A simple online search will yield countless photos taken at the museum, making it a must-visit spot for stamp collectors. When you come here, you’ll discover that in the past, transportation was slow, and letters traveled far. As you knock on this century-old door, the profound historical and cultural heritage will come rushing towards you, and you’ll realize that the postal service is quite interesting.
汭 REi·FLOWER COFFEE BAR
Walking along North Suzhou Road, you’ll pass by the most beautiful coffee shop on the bank of Suzhou Creek. Choose a seat closest to the creek, and you can capture the feeling of a Parisian morning by the Seine River, with the Lujiazui “four pieces” in the background!
Order a cup of coffee and spend an afternoon chatting and taking photos here. It’s a coffee shop during the day and a bar at night, making it the perfect spot for a summer evening stroll!
Zhapu Road Bridge
Zhapu Road Bridge has witnessed the prosperity and hustle and bustle of the last century, and today it still spans across Suzhou Creek with an elegant posture. The river water flows quietly under the bridge, while the lively Shanghai life unfolds on the bridge, forming a unique landscape of the city.
Zhapu Road Bridge also has another name – Fashi Bridge. It offers an excellent photography angle, overlooking the Lujiazui “four pieces” across the river, with outstanding historical buildings lining both banks. At sunset, it exudes an even more romantic atmosphere.
Waibaidu Bridge
Waibaidu Bridge is one of Shanghai’s famous landmarks and is known as “Grandma’s Bridge” in the hearts of many old Shanghainese. Although it is only a little over 100 meters long, it has witnessed the historical changes of Shanghai and has long become one of the must-visit landmarks for tourists coming to Shanghai.
Standing on Waibaidu Bridge, with the Huangpu River on one side and the passing traffic on the other, simply leaning against the railing creates a wonderful atmosphere. During the day and at night, you can capture two different scenes, making it a photography hotspot not to be missed!
Shanghai Mansion
The predecessor of Shanghai Mansion was the Broadway Mansions, an Art Deco-style building. Strolling here, you can feel the old Shanghai charm of 1934 while enjoying a distant view of the Huangpu River and Suzhou Creek, taking in the beautiful scenery of the Bund!
